Steve's Funeral

My cousin Steve Davis passed away unexpectedly on January 25th from unknown causes. It's still hard to believe he's no longer here. My family made a quick trip down to Phoenix for his funeral. We left early morning on Friday, February 1st, and came back on Sunday. We made it in time for the viewing Friday night. Claire was an excellent traveler, except for a 40 minute stretch on the way down between Kanab and Page when she was really tired.

Steve was a Highway Patrolman, and it was really remarkable because they always had members of the Honor Guard standing by his casket during the viewings, and they would do a Changing of the Guard after so much time had passed. The immediate family had a police escort down the freeway on the way to the cemetery. There were so many law officers at the funeral and grave side services. It was so neat that they did so many things for the funeral and family.
Here we are in 2007 at a Real soccer game with Steve.
We stopped at Glen Canyon Dam on the way down.

I'm so glad that we were able to make it down to say goodbye to Steve. We really enjoyed the lovely weather in Phoenix. I only wish we could have made the trip under better circumstances.
